Well, well, well… Trump has issued a statement on Ryan’s budget deal:

(New York, NY) December 17, 2015 – “If anyone needed more evidence of why the American people are suffering at the hands of their own government, look no further than the budget deal announced by Speaker Ryan. In order to avoid a government shutdown, a cowardly threat from an incompetent President, the elected Republicans in Congress threw in the towel and showed absolutely no budget discipline.

The American people will have to absorb higher deficits, greater debt, less economic liberty and more corporate welfare. Congress cannot seem to help itself in bending to every whim of special interests. How can they face their constituents when they continue to burden our children and grandchildren with debts they will never be able to repay? Our government is failing us, so we must do something about it. Who knows how bad things will be when the next administration comes in and has to pick up the pieces?

The only special interest not being served by our government is the American people. It is time we imposed budget discipline by holding the line on spending, getting rid of waste, fraud and abuse, and by taking on our debt. To do these things, we need a President who can lead the fight to hold Congress and the rest of government accountable. Together, we can Make America Great Again.” – Donald J. Trump

I don’t know how anyone could describe the situation any clearer than that. Like Putin says, he is a smart guy… and I reckon he knows precisely what he is doing. Let’s see how well this gets reported, because it will go over very well indeed with the fed-up grass roots fiscal conservatives of either wing of the Incumbrepublocrat Party. â—„Daveâ–º

I’m still very conflicted over Trump. He says all the right things….most of the time. Thing is he has no official record of positions, and his unofficial record is questionable at best. It boils down to do you trust him. Is he being 100% honest with voters or is he being the ultimate politician that has no problem saying what the people want to hear to get elected. It would seem that people trust him more than any of the other candidates. How can you blame them? They have been lied to from every side. This budget deal is the perfect example but Trump is also not without sin. Recently he blasted Cruz for his opposition to ethanol subsidies. How can you be against crony capitalism and corporate welfare and support these subsidies? I know why he said it. Cruz is beating him in Iowa polls. No state relies more on corn subsidies than Iowa. That is pandering.

There is one candidate that I trust more than Trump. Coincidentally he is running in second place. Either one is fine with me because any other choice is no choice at all. The only solution we have is someone that will spend four years breaking the back of the all powerful machine. My fear of Trump is that he likes the machine and works well within it which will cause him to just oil it so it runs quieter. I look forward to cutting back the field so some depth can come out of the rest of the debates. I wrote about it at home. If interested “GOP It’s Your Move – Cull The Herd or Perish” found in my sand box.

    • Is a little pandering so wrong in representative government? Are we supposed to be hiring an ideological ‘leader,’ or someone willing to represent our own views in government? Just as any candidate not professing to be a devoted anti-abortion Christian could never win in Iowa, neither could one not supporting corn farmers and their industry. What would you do in his place? 🙂 â—„Daveâ–º

I’ve stated my first choice is Cruz, but if we wind up with The Donald it’ll be entertaining to say the least. He’ll blow up the GOP and we conservatives might get a do-over. Of course, that correction may take awhile and I might not live long enough to see it, but I say “Bring on the Revolution!”

(Also, Speaker Ryan needs to be primaried immediately. What a disgrace!)

I agree that that his statement could not more clearly describe what is needed. Still, I cannot stomach the thought of him as President. Same with Cruz so I likely will also sit this one out. Mary….the only reason I could accept Trump is for the entertainment value and watching the GOP efforts to deal with him. From that perspective, maybe I should just enjoy the show and recognize that it probably won’t matter to me if he becomes the leader of the free world.

    • Now you are getting the idea, Larry. It is time to give up on caring about the future and just enjoy the show. The GOP elites certainly deserve everything that is happening. Besides, how could Trump possibly be any worse than Obama or Hillary? Relax! :). â—„Daveâ–º

If I thought Trump would take it to the establishment, I would support him. As it is, like Chris, I remain conflicted.

Out of the entire offering of poor candidates, I prefer Cruz with Fiorina as VP.

That would be a good team Troy. A constitutional conservative working the legals with the help of someone that knows their way around a board room. They could call BS on anyone.

      • With my usual ‘caveat on Cruz ineligibility, I would prefer the ticket reversed. Both have brilliant quick minds, but her CEO experience makes her the better qualified for POTUS, with Cruz as her consigliere. :). â—„Daveâ–º

Problem is that Snarly Carly can’t win the nomination while Cruz very well might.

        • For some reason, Troy, her persona and attitude doesn’t bother me. I have always appreciated strong, assertive, intelligent, and competent women… and they don’t have to be as flirty and good looking as Sara Palin for me to like them. 🙂

That said, I take your point about her inability to actually win the primary. One presumes she is by now angling for the VP job. â—„Daveâ–º

      • Chris says:

To me right now the constitution and a strict understanding of it has to take the front seat. The bill of rights is under constant assault from all different factions including business. That’s one other thing that bothers me about Trump. Have you ever heard him mention any of the founding documents?

      • Chris says:

I’ll qualify that. He has mentioned the 2nd amendment but that’s only because it’s a hot button issue. What are his thoughts on the 10th for example?

      • Chris says:

        or an article 5 convention?

        • To be fair, I am unaware of any of the other candidates positions on these issues; but then I haven’t researched them. The truth is that none of them seem very anxious to restrain or downsize the Federal Government. â—„Daveâ–º

    • I appears to me that he already is taking on the establishment, Troy. What more would he need to do to piss them off? :). â—„Daveâ–º
