PostHeaderIcon They bought how much of what????

I just got this in an email from RandPAC…

Recently, the Department of Homeland Security purchased 750 million rounds of ammo.

Our military only went through about 70 million rounds per year during the Iraq War!

Is there a growing chance that the upcoming “election” may be beside the point? That the Obamanation & Company have no intention of stepping down when their ultimate victory must seem so close at hand??

Also, why is the GOP “officially” silent on this stuff? Why was there no mention at the Convention of the obvious trend toward dictatorship?

Could it be that RandPAC is yanking my chain with false information?? If so, to what purpose?

I don’t get it.

Well, the obvious question is: How many people are in Homeland Security? Further, how many rounds do you need per person at that level? Check your facts; and when you find them, show me them. I don’t know where do even look for that stuff.

    • Troy says:

      Greg,
The problem is that I have no facts nor do I know where to find them. All we have are these “hints” along with some vague notions of civil unrest associated with the presidential election — which, on the surface, seem unjustified.

I might be inclined to write this off as nonsense were it not for something Obama proposed in 2008/2009. That was to form a domestic military capability that was as well equipped as our true military. It does not take much imagination to figure out what such a force would be used for.

I would like to point out however, that a lot of this stuff done in the name of National Security (Ie: TSA, Patriot Act, etc.) is done peremptorily all the time. So, what you have been hearing could simply be normal procedure (IE, “this COULD happen, so let’s be prepared” — granted, though it is wasteful and causes a lot of unease). It is difficult to tell what is being done “just in case” vs. what is being done with some ulterior motive–as is the case with nearly all government, mainly because we don’t have the manuals.

Likewise, I understand your concern as well, which is in the opposite direction of the government: “THis MIGHT be something here, let’s be prepared.” Same concept, just the focus is shifted.

        • Troy says:

          Greg,
Might I remind you that only a few days ago you argued for a weapons purchase “test” based on things that simply did not seem right. That is exactly the logic I am applying here — something about this — the quantities, the timing, the agencies involved (Social Security??) just make for a gut reaction worth following up on.

Added to that is the governments own warning about civil unrest which I see no basis for unless government itself intentionally does something to provoke it.

          Troy

        • Greg says:

But yet the logic you apply for your own gun ownership is to deter…. which is their logic. I’m just pointing out how one might be able to understand that BTW, not actually pointing out that what they are doing is “right,” “correct,” “not shady,” etc.

  • Maybe they’re going to sell it to the future terrorists they’re training to overthrow today’s terrorists?

Maybe someone in Homeland Security has a lot of stock in bullet companies?

Gotta get prepped to kill Iranians for the Israelis?

Apple sued them for copyright infringement, and now they’ve got to scrap all their ammo for i-bullets?

We can come up with conspiracy theories all day, but some facts might be a better start.

    • Troy says:

      Steel,
I have offered no conspiracy theory.. simply some questions.

I would like very much to know where we might get those “facts” you mention.

      Troy

      • Greg says:

So if someone came up to you and presented you with a reason why these might be needed and convinced you of it, you’d drop the issue? That’s the same thing I do with Obama’s birth certificate. “African” is not a nationality… why is it there. Show me why it is and back it up with facts, and I’ll drop the issue. At the same time though, until these questions are addressed, I do not want to assume something sinister is afoot either–because if nothing is, I’ve been panicked for nothing 😉

        • Troy says:

I’m afraid I am mystified over comments about conspiracies and panicking.

All I did was post a bit of news and asked what it was all about. The fact that federal agencies that do not have armed agents are, nevertheless stocking up on ammo struck me as odd at the very least and as something worth looking into. That is all.

I fail to see the danger in merely being aware of what is going on around us.

          Troy

        • Greg says:

No that was merely me understanding you and agreeing with you that we should question everything, but NOT jump into conspiracy territory. Sorry if it appeared as anything but.

  • Daedalus says:

    There is more. From http://www.infowars.com/dhs-classifies-ammo-purchase-following-controversy/
Given the fact that the DHS is also acquiring riot gear in preparation for civil unrest which could take place at the upcoming DNC, RNC and presidential inauguration, the purchase of ammunition in such massive numbers has stoked fears that the federal government could be preparing to use force against the American people.
Maybe they are shipping it to Syria.

    • Troy says:

      Dae,
I realize that the notion of civil unrest associated with one of the conventions or the inauguration have been mentioned as excuses but I have seen nothing to suggest that such unrest is likely (unless the same powers that are arming our domestic agencies also plan to intentionally provoke said unrest).

Something is going on here and it would be damn nice to know what it is.

Also, I am not totally comfortable using Alex Jones as a primary source of factual information.

      Troy

      • Troy, I share your trepidation with Alex Jones as a source; but if one peruses the comment section to the link Dae provided (skip over the juvenile debate about ballistics) there are some very cogent and disturbing remarks therein, some by LEO Patriots. Particularly thought-provoking is a discussion of how easy it will be for the Feds to co-opt local LEO’s to do their bidding in disarming us. I highly recommend rereading my old 11/4/08 post ‘Remember Katrina‘ and watch the NRA video. I just did, and it pissed me off all over again.

The so-called ‘FEMA camps’ are very real. They exist. I saw VCR videos of some of them back in the early ’90s, when Patriots were concerned with the NWO agenda of the UN. The ultimate intent for their existence is open to conjecture; but to me the simple fact that the concertina wire on top of the fences faces inward, is all I need to notice to be seriously disturbed by the implication that once occupied, somebody wants to be able to control who gets to ever leave them again. Or, given the number of body-bags the Feds are buying, in what condition.

In the wake of Randy Weaver and Waco, the Patriot community spawned the Militia movement in the ’90s. I was a cattle rancher at the time in the foothills of the Sierras. Living 30 miles from the nearest cop shop, 911 wasn’t the first number one called in an emergency already; a neighbor was. Many of my neighbor ranchers were also Vietnam era vets, and we knew we were within a tank of gas of LA. If the trucks ever stopped moving for any reason, the teeming masses there would be out of food in three days. The natural reaction would be to head for the hills. We owned the hills and grew food for a living. Naturally, we recognized our need to be prepared to defend our territory, homes, and livestock; so we prudently formed our own low-key militia for mutual self-defense.

We weren’t a bunch of Rambo wannabes. We didn’t buy camo gear, drill, or train; but we did buy some communications gear and stocked up on ammo, medical supplies, and staples. We planned our road blocks and lookout posts, etc. We were pretty open about our existence and it did disturb some of the more progressive ladies in the community; but most ranchers are men’s men, and we knew we could count on their husbands if the SHTF. Left alone, our community could have easily survived a year completely cut off from the rest of the world. The only question was our ability to fend off raiders; but we were prepared to try.

Then came the OKC bombing. After Clinton’s speech blaming talk radio and the Militia Movement, overnight it became uncool and somewhat dangerous to even admit one was part of a militia. We could no longer post a public notice of a meeting. Whereas we had formed some loose connections with other units down in the valley, nobody knew who they could trust, as the whole movement went underground. It was simply amazing how quickly a perfectly legal and arguably patriotic activity, of citizens prepared to defend our natural rights to life, Liberty, and property, became a taboo endeavor that engendered suspicion and distrust, among sheeple convinced we were all a bunch of Timothy McVeigh’s.

The point is that half our citizens already are deeply suspicious of Liber-T-Party Patriots. It would be simple to pull off a false flag op that looked like the beginning of an insurrection, which would have the sheeple demanding the government do something to protect them from those dastardly right-wing nuts. Then, all it would take is a declaration of martial law and an attempt to disarm us to start a serious hot civil war; because the line we simply cannot allow them to cross is to disarm us.

The TSA is growing by leaps and bounds. These authoritarian clowns would just love to be given a gun to go with their tin badges. They are no longer just airport security; they are moving into train and bus stations. They are setting up roadblock checkpoints on our highways. Why? Why are we not allowed to ask why? More importantly, why aren’t our Congressional Representatives asking why? Why are our States putting up with it? And why are so many conservative sheeple supportive of the so-called Patriot Act? As has been observed in the foreign press, America can survive Barack Obama; but it is doubtful that it can survive the sheeple who would elect or reelect him. â—„Daveâ–º

Well, there is the Govs own websites.review the redacted (censored) quantities here.

The form indicates this is a normal makeup of ammunition for the noted agencies.
Also the Social Security Admin needs bullets (to defend itself against irate old folk) 🙂

One thing that does occur to me regarding this particular bit of “noise” is that it may be mostly a sideshow intended to detract from the certainty of our impending financial collapse. Neither duopoly party has a plan that would even make a serious dent in continued growth of the debt monster, let alone begin to pay it down.

As I have noted before, global war is the tried and true “default” method to “adjust the books” when these financial situations get out of control. Despite the cathartic effect such a war might have on society, I am not anxious to see one happen. But, as is always the case, human nature will ultimately intervene when human reason fails.

FYI, in addition to being a pain in the keester, I have a real pain in my own keester (from an abscess that refuses to heal) and am off to Austin for another encounter with a surgeon. Wish me luck.

Consider what Obama has done in the first term, the most notable achievement there was in his first term, which was the killing of Osama Bin Laden. I can guarantee you that these are his “Achievements” that he is going trumpet from the highest balcony… so he can distract from his own broken promises, the most major of which is that he would fix the economy. It’s an old tactic used by nearly all the Presidents who were embattled: Carter, Bush (H.W.), etc.- not to mention the Reps and Senators, all used to detract from the main issue. It’s really pathetic in my opinion.

  • Daedalus says:

I don’t think it is a distraction. I think it is motivated by fear of the mob.
Viewing recent events in Greece, Spain and London they may be quite reasonable in preparing for the worst here. Not necessarily from the conservative types either but more likely from the unions, OWS crowd and other collectivist curmudgeons.

      • Yeah, best of luck and my sympathy to J9. Sorry I am behind on the comments. I’ll catch up. I just finished reading “No Easy Day” by ‘Mark Owen,’ which was just released (yesterday now). It was a good read, which I didn’t want to put down. â—„Daveâ–º

The Social Security Bullets finally hit MSNBC. With a somewhat plausible explanation.
