Does anyone remember Naomi Wolf?  She was the hot young Progressive babe that scammed the Al Gore campaign into paying her $15K a month to dress him like an Alpha Male.  I often wondered what Tipper thought of that particular arrangement to try to make a man out of her bimbo.  She has a new gig now – as the Progressive Paula Revere.

An acquaintance implored me to watch in its entirety a 28 minute YouTube Video of her trying to awaken America to a fascist coup she sees in progress.  I did so with building interest.  I had already heard mentioned on talk radio that the Army was assigning a combat Brigade trained in crowd control to Northern Command, for deployment within our borders assigned to Homeland Security; but here was a Progressive with her hair on fire over it.  She was invoking our Founders and making Constitutional arguments similar to those of the Patriot/Militia Movement of the early ’90s, in which I took an active part.

My initial reaction was encouragement that someone on the Left had actually written a book entitled “Give Me Liberty – A Handbook For American Revolutionaries.”  Could there be common cause between traditional Patriots and new revolutionaries on the Left who might not be Marxist/Globalists?  She apparently had written another book, “The End of America,” some time ago and lists things she warned readers about that have already now happened; but kept referring ominously to 10/1/08 as the date the forecast fascist coup itself became a fate acompli.  Thus, this was no longer a warning that she was delivering, but supposedly a serious call to action.  It wasn’t clear what she meant by this alleged coup, so I looked forward to checking out the two websites she referenced:

How disappointing.  They are both just promoting her speaking appearances, her new book, and soon her upcoming DVD of her earlier book.  One would think that if she believed her shtick, and this was a real emergency call to action, it would be time to suspend commerce, post her tomes as e-books, and upload her DVD on YouTube to educate us all.  At the very least, she should post an article on the subject with links to some of her evidence.  The only links I could find on either site, take one to the ACLU and similar radical Leftest organizations and movements soliciting membership or online petition signing, without much detail about their causes.

Nowhere in her domains or links, could I find anything written explaining or even mentioning her dramatic assertion that we had just undergone a coup.  When I saw this page, it became obvious that she has been on a book promotion tour, and was probably being overly melodramatic about the new military deployment.  I have no idea what suggestions her book makes; but I suspect that signing petitions and calling on Congress to arrest George Bush, do not a revolution make.  Reluctantly, I concluded that Naomi is out of her league and not a serious player in these matters, so the idea of a Left/Right common cause evaporated; but my curiosity about the military deployment remained.

Google and I were on our own now; but I found a disturbing Army Times article announcing the troop deployment:

The 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team has spent 35 of the last 60 months in Iraq patrolling in full battle rattle, helping restore essential services and escorting supply convoys.

Now they’re training for the same mission — with a twist — at home.

Beginning Oct. 1 for 12 months, the 1st BCT will be under the day-to-day control of U.S. Army North, the Army service component of Northern Command, as an on-call federal response force for natural or manmade emergencies and disasters, including terrorist attacks.

It is not the first time an active-duty unit has been tapped to help at home. In August 2005, for example, when Hurricane Katrina unleashed hell in Mississippi and Louisiana, several active-duty units were pulled from various posts and mobilized to those areas.

But this new mission marks the first time an active unit has been given a dedicated assignment to NorthCom, a joint command established in 2002 to provide command and control for federal homeland defense efforts and coordinate defense support of civil authorities.

The 1st BCT’s soldiers also will learn how to use “the first ever nonlethal package that the Army has fielded,” 1st BCT commander Col. Roger Cloutier said, referring to crowd and traffic control equipment and nonlethal weapons designed to subdue unruly or dangerous individuals without killing them.

The package is for use only in war-zone operations, not for any domestic purpose.

“It’s a new modular package of nonlethal capabilities that they’re fielding. They’ve been using pieces of it in Iraq, but this is the first time that these modules were consolidated and this package fielded, and because of this mission we’re undertaking we were the first to get it.”

The package includes equipment to stand up a hasty road block; spike strips for slowing, stopping or controlling traffic; shields and batons; and, beanbag bullets.

These are certainly ominous developments to one who has always counted on the Posse Comitatus Act to protect us from the government deploying our military forces for police action against American citizens.  The Patriot Movement made much of it back during the Waco fiasco in ’94, and the FBI even lied, saying the tanks and such deployed there were being driven and manned only by FBI agents, so as not to have run afoul of it.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been paying close attention to such matters of late.  Wishing to supply a Wikipedia Link explaining the Act here, I Googled it and was served up bad news and more intriguing clues.  It seems that our politicians have been tinkering with the Act the past few years, and our Homeland Security department has their own dismissive take on its applicability to their mission:

Another gross misinterpretation of the Posse Comitatus Act was made on 13 December 2001 in the Washington Times, which reported that Provost Marshal William J. Bolduc of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center reduced the police powers of the civilian police force at that facility because they were bound by the Posse Comitatus Act. The story said:

The Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 prohibits members of the U.S. armed forces or employees of the U.S. military from enforcing laws on civilians [emphasis added].

Sinnreich, Trebilcock, Bolduc, and most commentators who opine on this law are wrong. The Posse Comitatus Act was not, as they assert and as most people believe, enacted to prevent members of military services from acting as a national police force. It was enacted to prevent the Army from being abused by having its soldiers pressed into service as police officers (a posse) by local law enforcement officials in the post-Reconstruction South.

The whole lengthy article is fascinating for its history lesson; but I am afraid this is not good news for those who love Liberty or even tranquility.  If the Federal Government has troops at its disposal, there will always be a temptation to use them in any instance of civil unrest.  When they do, it will probably ignite an uncontrollable civil war.

Play what-if with me for a moment.  This election is going to be very close.  With all the machinations for voter fraud already going on below the radar, whichever side loses is naturally going to demagogue the issue and rouse the rabble.  This time there is not a statesman like Nixon willing to to put country first and graciously concede when Chicago stole the election for Kennedy.  When Gore proved not to be such a statesman and contested Florida, cooler heads prevailed and the courts were allowed to settle it.

Who really thinks the ghettos won’t be on fire if Obama loses just four weeks from now?  Then, what would happen if it spilled out into Flyover Country?  Who thinks that we rednecks are going to allow our communities to be burned without gunfire and bloodshed?  Where does the U.S. Army fit into this scenario?  Would they be ordered to collect our guns?  What would happen then?  I don’t like any of my answers… â—„Daveâ–º
